My name is Greta, I am an advocate for healthy eating, positive thinking, and doing more of what makes you truly happy. As a 25 year old cancer survivor, I was given a whole tree of lemons 5 years ago when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I learned ways to make lemonade, despite a lack of sweetness in life, and I hope to share that with as many as I can.
Food has always been very present in my life, not only as fuel but as a way to bring people together. My mother, a strong Sicilian woman, has taught me everything I know about cooking. I am the happiest when I get to cook with her in our kitchen. As a young cancer survivor, I value the importance of fueling your body with healthy food for a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Throughout my chemotherapy treatment, I felt my best when I was eating clean meals, working on daily physical fitness, and nurturing my positive outlook through health and wellness.
I have been happy living in Boston since the summer of 2020 and have obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing through an accelerated program at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. Through my Pre-Med Bachelor of Science degree at the College of William & Mary, I focused my study on cardiovascular and human physiology and the science of nutrition. During both of these programs, I have chosen to study the science of nutrition and physiology extensively in order to support evidence based health care.
Over the next few years, I will continue my pursuit of nutrition and positive lifestyle changes to support wellness in the capacity of a Oncology Registered Nurse at Brigham and Women's Hospital and I plan to pursue a nurse practitioner degree.
Hi, my name is Greta! I am a student at the College of William and Mary, studying Kinesiology and Health Sciences on a pre-med track with the intention of continuing post- grad as a nurse practitioner. I am originally from Frederick, Maryland, but can see myself living practically anywhere. I grew up dancing classical ballet and running track/cross country; all sports I have retired from, but still have a great interest in. At school, I am involved in undergraduate biology research investigating neurodegenerative disease, I am a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and I am the president of the Bone Marrow Drive signing people up for the national bone marrow transplant donor registry to combat various blood cancers and disease.
Growing up in an Italian household, I was blessed with amazing homemade meals every day. I started cooking the summer before I started living in my single apartment at school, and I have loved the feeling of creating meals from scratch that fuel a healthy body. I love to cook for others as well, as making someone happy with their favorite food is such an easy act of love, yet sometimes the value of home-cooking gets overlooked. It's a physical act of nurturing, act of creativity, and a passing down of traditional cultures that binds us all together. Fuels our bodies, our minds, and our souls.
I am an advocate for positivity, as every day is a fresh start, and happiness is a choice. I intend to make lemonade out of every lemon that is thrown at me. or maybe a gin and tonic with a twist of lemon.
